A good friend of mine got laid off from their full-time, in-house copywriting job recently.

He texted me to let me know and ask if I knew of anyone hiring.

Even through text – I could tell by the “vibe” that it was hard for him to ask.

I get it.

When you’ve been fully booked for years…

And when you’re at his level – writing for some of the biggest and highest-level companies in the biz…

Digging for new prospects can feel like a step back.

I’ve been there. MANY times.
We all go through ebbs and flows in our business.

My reply was simple:

“I got you.”

I know this guy is great at what he does, a true professional, and is so driven by “pride of performance” that he’ll overdeliver every time.

Since I intimately know his work – and how HE works – it’s easy for me to flip through my mental rolodex and find someone who might be a good fit for his next big gig.

Not only that – but I WANT to connect him with great clients looking for an experienced and reliable copywriter.

If we get all freud-ey about it – it feels GOOD to make that connection.

To be the person “in the know.”

To be the gal that comes to the rescue of a friend, and provides something of value to my professional network.

Most people feel this way.

Think about how excited people get to tell you about the latest movie they saw, or the new restaurant they experienced first and that you ‘absolutely HAVE to try.’

We want to share things that provide value with the people we know.

It’s why developing your personal and professional network is so important.

That’s why I’m partnering with my friend Ilise Benun on her “Jumpstart Your Networking” live workshop on May 15th.

For over 35 years, Ilise has taught creative professionals how to get better clients, with bigger budgets…

And “level up” their networking skills to make meaningful and long-term connections WITHOUT feeling awkward or salesy.

The May 15th workshop is completely free to join, and you’ll learn:

  1. A new way to think about networking that’s painless (and even fun for introverts)…
  1. How to find & nurture meaningful connections – even if you feel you don’t know anyone…
  1. How to never come off as “pushy” or “salesy”…

Plus, she’s bringing on some special guests – including a few big time introverts – to share how they overcame their networking struggles to create their “dream networks.”

Having a strong network of people “in the know” has pulled my ass out of the fire more often than I can count.

But more than that…

It’s made business – and frankly, life in general – just way more fun.

So click here to register for this 1-hour live workshop on May 15th.
