I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what it means to be someone who creates.

Not just artists or writers (though certainly them too).

All of us.

The entrepreneur building something from nothing.

The parents crafting a home, a childhood, and a sense of belonging for their children.

The healer or the teacher. The person who tends to their corner of the world with intention and love.

Someone who dares to imagine something better and then works to make it real.

One thing I’ve learned (mostly painfully) is that creators are necessarily vulnerable.

We have to be.

To make anything worth making, to birth anything worth birthing, we have to leave little pieces of ourselves open.

We have to crack ourselves open and let life pour in so that we can transform it into something meaningful.

Our art, our work, our love, our legacy…

It all requires us to be porous. Permeable.

Willing to be touched and changed and moved by the world around us.

But here’s the thing about being open like that…

The world doesn’t always treat openness with gentleness.

Many times the world takes advantage. (let’s be honest… most times).

Often people see that vulnerability and use it against us instead of protecting it.

So we get hurt precisely because we were brave enough to stay open. To keep creating and keep believing that our work matters.

This is why we need each other.

Now more than ever, creators need strong people in their corner.

We need people who understand what it costs to stay open.

We need people who won’t let us forget that we’re not crazy for dreaming big, for wanting more, for refusing to shrink ourselves down to make other people comfortable.

We need people who will remind us that our vulnerability is not a weakness…

It’s the source of our power.

Whether you’re building a business or building a life, or whether you’re creating art or creating space for others to thrive – you are a creator.

And you deserve to be surrounded by people who get that. Who celebrate it and protect it fiercely.

We need to lift each other up.

We need to remind each other of our own brilliance on the days we forget it.

We need to say the hard things and ask the brave questions and hold space for each other’s becoming.

We need to be the ones who believe in each other when the world is telling us to play small.

This is the work of community. This is sacred work.

And it’s never been more necessary.

If you have people in your life who do this for you…

Who see your light and protect it. Who remind you that you’re not alone in your wild dreaming – hold them close.

Tell them how much they matter. Because they do.

And if you’re looking for that kind of community, if you’re hungry for a circle of builders who understand what it means to create with your whole heart, who get the cost and the courage it requires…

Just know that you’re not alone in that longing either.

We’re here.

We’re building this.

And there’s a place for you in it.

With fierce love and deep respect for your becoming,

Rachel
